Caramel Sauce

Caramel Sauce

Not only is this yummy caramel sauce much better than any store bought sauce, it's super easy to make too! You will be so surprised at how quick this delicious sauce comes together that you won't want to buy any ever again. It can be added to pies, cakes, cookies, ice cream and so much more!

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, sliced into tablespoon amounts
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions:

  1. Add sugar and water to a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. DO NOT STIR. This will cause the sugar to crystallize and become a solid.
  2. Occasionally lift and slowly tilt pan, so sugar doesn't scorch. You can also use a pastry brush to remove sugar from edges instead.
  3. Cook until the mixture becomes a golden amber color. Don't let it get too dark.
  4. Remove from heat and vigorously whisk in heavy cream until smooth. Add in butter and return to a medium-low heat.
  5. Continue cooking and constantly whisking for about 3 minutes. Mix in the salt and transfer to a bowl to cool.
  6. Serve after cooling or transfer to an airtight container to keep for later.

*Caramel can be refrigerated for up to one month, or frozen for up to 3 months.

*The caramel will become more solid as it sits in your fridge. Don't worry, this doesn't mean it has spoiled. You can just transfer however much you are wanting into a microwave safe container, and zap in 30 second intervals until creamy again. You'll want to be sure to stir after each interval for best results.
