Fried Green Tomatoes

Ingredients:

  • 3-4 medium green tomatoes
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup yellow corn meal
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • vegetable oil

Directions:

  1. Add about 3 inches of vegetable oil to a large skillet over medium heat. Allow this to heat to 350F while you prepare your tomatoes.
  2. Add the butter milk to a medium bowl and whisk in the egg. Set aside.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, add the flour, corn meal and seasonings. Whisk and set aside.
  4. Slice each of your tomatoes to your desired thickness.
  5. Dip a slice of tomato into the buttermilk mixture, coating well. Add the tomato slice to the flour mixture and coat well. Place the slice on a plate and repeat with the remaining tomatoes.
  6. Add 4-5 slices of tomato about an inch apart in your skillet. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side. Repeat with remaining slices.
  7. Serve warm with buttermilk ranch. Enjoy!

*Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days.

Makes about 10-14 slices
