Cornbread Dressing with Italian Sausage

This cornbread dressing is so delicious. It has the perfect blend of tastes and textures. It pairs wonderfully with Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. It is bursting with flavor and well worth all of the preparation.

Ingredients:

  • 3 boxes Jiffy cornbread mix and ingredients to prepare
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 cup chopped white onion
  • 12 ounces cream of mushroom soup, strained
  • 12 ounces cream of celery soup
  • 8 ounces ground Italian sausage, cooked and drained
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon rubbed sage
  • 1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons black pepper
  • fresh sage leaves for garnish (optional)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 F.
  2. Prepare cornbread according to directions on package. (Mix all packages well with 3 eggs and one cup of whole milk)
  3. Pour batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  4. Preheat oven to 375 F.
  5. Let cornbread cool completely, then crumble.
  6. In an extra large bowl, combine soups, milk, sage, salt, pepper and poultry seasoning. Mix well.
  7. Stir in sausage.
  8. Mix in celery and onions.
  9. Add in cornbread, folding gently to combine.
  10. Add mixture to 2 greased 9x11 inch baking dishes.
  11. Bake for 5o minutes until golden brown on top.
  12. Garnish with sage on top, if desired and Enjoy!
